The California ProKart Challenge is preparing for a return to the track after two months off following the 2019 opening event at Buttonwillow. The flagship regional program for Superkarts! USA returns to the site of the 2019 SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals with a unique and first ever dual-round weekend, as Rounds Two and Three will be contested on the June 7-9 weekend at the CalSpeed Karting facility. Competitors will compete in a similar format to the Pro Tour, with optional practice on Friday, and then two separate race days on Saturday and Sunday. The track layout will be different from the March weekend, with competitors set to battle around the ‘Tecnico’ circuit. The weather is forecasted to be perfect racing weather, and the turnout is expected to be the biggest of the season.

The 2019 California ProKart Challenge kicked off its season at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on March 30-31. A number of drivers swept the action for the opening round, including reigning SKUSA SuperNationals winner Billy Musgrave. The five-time California PKC champion went unchallenged in the Croc Promotion USA/Mad Old Nut Pro Shifter category. Add in Micah Hendricks in the Musgrave Racing Company Pro Shifter 2 division, John Crow in the Alpinestars G1 Gladiator class, Nick George in S4 Master Stock Moto, Brett Harrelson in Bell Helmets S4 Super Master Stock Moto, Stuart Hayner in AiM Sports X30 Super Master, and defending IAME USA West Micro Swift champion Graham Trammell. All seven will attempt to continue their streak in the P1 position through the double race weekend in Fontana.

The second half of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour is underway with the fourth round of the championship program contested on Sunday. The 10th edition of the SKUSA SpringNationals completed at the Utah Motorsports Campus in Erda, Utah, closing out the weekend with an exciting finish. Wind was a factor throughout the day and a threat of rain held off until the final checkered flag, with the heavy conditions passing south of the Salt Lake City area. A handful of drivers were able to repeat their victories on Saturday, solidifying their foothold in the title chase as the program looks toward the SummerNationals later this year.

eKartingNews.com remains the official online partner for the SKUSA Pro Tour, having broadcast every race since its inception. Those karting enthusiasts not in attendance can listen from home or on the road to the EKN Live broadcast page at www.ekartingnews.com/live with EKN’s own Rob Howden providing the play-by-play call. This weekend’s broadcast is brought to you by Mad Old Nut Racing, Rolison Performance Group and Courtney Concepts. Daily reports and updates on the EKN Social Media network will fill up your timeline throughout the weekend.

X30 Senior
Two drivers solidified themselves as the top title contenders following the action at the WinterNationals. Christian Brooks and 2017 SuperNationals winner Joshua Car placed inside the top-four in both main events, each taking a win in March. That has boosted them well out in front of the championship standings, with Car (Crosslink / Exprit) leading by 76 points over Brooks (Nash / FA Kart). Brooks has history with the Utah facility, winning the US Rotax Grand Nationals back at the 2011 edition in the Mini Max class. The two have similar paths for the 2019 season as they are both contesting the F4 US Championship, sitting second and sixth in the standings after the opening event in Georgia. Looking ahead, the SummerNationals weekend is the same as a F4 event at Mid-Ohio and thus, if either are leading the championship after this weekend, they could vacate that position with F4 trumping karting. EKN Trackside: 2019 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals Preview – Part 1

This weekend marks the 10th edition of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals. The event is set for May 3-5 at the Utah Motorsports Campus as SKUSA returns to the Erda, Utah facility for the second time in series history. Formerly known as Miller Motorsports Park, SKUSA first visited the facility outside Salt Lake City back in July 2012 for the SummerNationals that year. The 9/10-mile Alan Wilson-designed karting circuit is named ‘Star Trek’, which will be contested in the clockwise direction – the opposite of the 2012 visit.

Pro Shifter
The IAME SSE 175cc powerplant made its debut at the SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals with two different drivers claiming victory. Andrew Bujdoso mastered the rain on Saturday to claim his first SKUSA Pro Tour victory while defending champion AJ Myers triumphed on Sunday. It was a Croc Promotion sweep of the victories thanks to Bujdoso and Myers, however, the roster has changed for Mad Old Nut Racing operation. Bujdoso remains, entering the SpringNationals as the championship leader by 10 points over Myers, who becomes a former teammate. Myers was released from his spot at MONR and has joined CRG Nordam, making his debut with the team this weekend. Myers brings with him the SKUSA #1 plate, joining SKUSA #2 plate holder Kyle Wick under the CRG Nordam banner, who sits third in the championship chase heading into Utah. Completing the silly season between races, Myers spot at Croc Promotion USA was filled by 2017 SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jake French. The Texan has spent the last month testing and racing with the team, and makes his return to the SKUSA Pro Tour this weekend. Read full story on eKartingNews.com
