California ProKart Challenge

X30 Super Master Division Created for SKUSA ProKart Challenge and LAKC
Friday, 05 January 2018 11:44

In just one week, the 2018 season will begin for the Superkarts! USA organization as the inaugural SKUSA Winter Series kicks off at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex in southern Florida. It is the earliest start to the season for the organization in almost 20 years, which continues to expand its national and regional schedule in an effort to reach all four corners of the United States. The California ProKart Challenge – SKUSA’s flagship regional program – is also slated to begin in less than 30 days, opening its six-race championship chase at Buttonwillow on February 2-3. New for the California PKC in 2018, and also for the SKUSA-affiliate Los Angeles Karting Championship, will be the X30 Super Master division.
The success of the S4 Super Master Stock Honda category, and the expansion of the sport, aided SKUSA in making the decision to add X30 Super Master for the 2018 season. The X30 Super Master class is designed to allow drivers 45 years-of-age and older to compete in a separate class from the original X30 Master division, which continues to be reserved for drivers 30 years-of-age and older. With the addition of the new class, a weight change has been made. X30 Master will now hold a minimum weight of 395lbs. while the X30 Super Master division is set at 405lbs.

“The dynamics of our sport has seen the average age of competitors increase year to year,” stated Superkarts! USA CEO Tom Kutscher. “Our sport may be viewed as a ‘kid’s sport’ by many, but more and more elder sportsmen are seeing the fun factor in karting. The proof is in our S4 Super Master program, which is one of the most popular divisions at the regional and national level. Our initial thought is to offer this new class at the local and regional level, review it, and then see if we can provide something similar at the SKUSA Pro Tour. I look forward to seeing this new division in action and hope it entices past SKUSA racers to come back and play.”

The California ProKart Challenge is scheduled to kick off its 2018 championship chases on February 2-3 at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California. The Los Angeles Karting Championship (LAKC) gets underway two weeks later with its first round of their nine-event program for 2018 on February 18 at the CalSpeed Karting Center in Fontana, California. Registration is currently open for the California PKC opener at the SKUSA Motorsports Reg page. LAKC has club membership, pit spot, and round one registration is currently open in their LAKC Motorsports Reg page.
