Typical west coast sunshine weather greeted over 150 drivers for the second round of the California ProKart Challenge event at the Willow Springs International Raceway on March 6-7. The Superkarts! USA regional program hosted its second event of the 2015 season, taking on the challenging Rosamond, California facility. After battling wet weather conditions last month, it was all sun and dry SKUSA MG Tires for the competitors in the 11 categories that are competing for a piece of the $75,000 prize package in 2015. Only three drivers were able to repeat their opening round victory, as the series welcomed eight new winners on the early season.

The 2015 season is underway for the Superkarts! USA organization, as its flagship regional program – the California ProKart Challenge – is set for its second event of the year. On March 6-7, racers from all over the western half of the United States will converge on the kart track at Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, California. The 6/10-mile course has been a regular destination for the 11-year program as competitors continue their battle to take home a piece of the more than $75,000 in cash, gift certificates and prizes to be handed out during 2015. The opening race at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in February challenged the more than 150 drivers on hand, with rainy conditions greeting the drivers in their first start of the new year.

“It was a wild and crazy way to start the season,” offered Superkarts! USA CEO and California ProKart Challenge promoter Tom Kutscher. “In previous years, we’ve had to battle rain and snow nearly every opening weekend of the season. Our racers always persevere and make it out, putting on a great show. I enjoyed seeing a lot of new winners at our first event earlier this month, and the numbers show that our competitors are ready for another amazing year.”

New SKUSA/ProKart Challenge Regional Series Rules Regarding Spec Fuel As announced 2-7-2015 in PKC-CA Driver’s Meeting
Written by John Motley - National Technical Director
Wednesday, 11 February 2015 09:20
We have been reviewing our fuel policy for some time, and we appreciate the input many of you have given us. We have discussed this issue with numerous racers, engine builders and kart teams across the country, and appreciate everyone’s candor and input. As a result of that input, we have decided to implement the following changes to our 2015 Spec Fuel program, effective immediately:
  • Drivers in the Stock Honda classes may now choose either VP MS98 or VP C12 as the spec fuel for their use at SKUSA events
  • All other classes will continue to use VP MS98 as the exclusive spec fuel at SKUSA events
  • Motul 2T Grand Prix will continue to be the spec oil for SKUSA events.
Additionally, as a test for the next two California Regional PKC events (Willow Springs and Buttonwillow), SKUSA/PKC will not be selling/providing any fuel. SKUSA/PKC will continue to sell/provide the Motul spec oil in 1 liter bottles for purchase at all events (as well as welcome racers to bring their own, as long as it is spec).

We hope that these program adjustments will be a welcome and successful transition for our racers as well as the kart shops and teams that support our program – especially as fuel is available thru most of these organizations. We also encourage racers to begin making arrangements now to acquire the necessary fuel for their next PKC-CA event.

One very important fuel restriction here will be:

Only sealed 5-gallon cans of fuel will be allowed to be brought into each PKC event described above. DUE TO LOCAL FIRE ORDINANCES and insurance restrictions, no 55-gallon drums will be allowed to be brought in.

Other SKUSA Regions may elect to continue to provide fuel at their events, so please consult their posted rules or inquire prior to those events.

SKUSA will continue to be the exclusive supplier of the fuel at the 2015 Pro Tour and SuperNationals events, and no fuel will be allowed to be brought into these events by the competitors or outside sources.
